A positive two weeks on the road for Cork County

Tuesday, June 14th, 2011

Cork County continued their positive run of form following their demolition of Limerick Raiders in the Munster Senior Cup quarter final at the Mardyke. Next up over the June Bank Holiday weekend were tricky away ties at Midleton in MCU Division 1 and Leinster CC in LCU Division 2.

Saturday June 4th

The away trip to Midleton brought the Mardyke side to unfamiliar territory with the East Cork club having moved from their old grounds at Midleton College out to the grounds of Midleton RFC. The home side won the toss and put the league holders into bat on the new artificial surface and immediately County were in trouble losing Shannon Madden and the returning Robert Duggan, both adjudged caught behind. Both the openers were soon followed by overseas player George Barry who was out to an excellent diving catch at point. At 9-3 the County middle order had to scramble into action with Ross Durity and Sidhz Joshi joining each other in the middle; what followed was an outstanding exhibition of composure and power as both batsmen recorded centuries – Durity (164) and Joshi (127*) in a Club record 280 run 4th wicket partnership to take the game away from the home side to leave Cork County on 348-5 after their 50 overs.

In response, Midleton put up a brave fight after losing some early wickets with middle order batsman Robert Smyth (110) recording a century of his own. James Duggan, who returned to the County side following his college exams, finished up with figures of 4-30 having bowled some excellent line and length. Overall it was a lacklustre fielding display from the Mardyke side as they had one eye on Monday’s trip to Rathmines and also having put such a large total on the board for Midleton to chase. In the end they bowled out the home side for 236 which handed County an impressive 112 run victory.

MCU Division 1:
Cork County 348-5 beat Midleton 236 all out by 112 runs at Midleton RFC.

Monday June 6th

Bank holiday Monday brought a tough trip up to Observatory Road in Rathmines for a clash with high flying Leinster CC. The home side, who were relegated from Division 1 last season, are hoping for an immediate return to the top division and so represented a good barometer for the Mardyke side. On a decent looking wicket Cork County skipper, Bruce Koch, won the toss and decided to bat. His decision was vindicated with another solid start from the opening partnership of Durity and Madden with Durity in particular looking very fluent in the middle. The partnership was broken with the score on 40 after Durity was adjudged LBW by Buksh. Barry entered the fray with some explosive hitting down the ground but a missed timed drive saw his demise to a straightforward catch at extra cover. Koch then proceeded to stroke the ball around the famous Rathmines ground with typical aplomb with hint of power every now and then. Unfortunately the middle collapsed around him with Joshi, O’Leary, Fogarty and Wootton all departing for a combined score of 4 as a result of some superb swing bowling from Carroll! Former skipper, Robert Duggan, joined Koch at the crease and attempted to get his captain on strike as often as possible entering the final 10 overs and with the batting power play imminent. However, following a sharp piece of fielding from Jones, Duggan was run out and Koch (76) soon followed leaving County with a total of 203 to defend.

With a total probably 20-30 runs short of a satisfactory score to defend, County knew they needed early wickets and they delivered with an exemplary opening attack from Bruce Koch and George Barry. Barry probed with excellent line and length while Koch bowled with great venom as they both tore into the Leinster top order removing the two dangermen Jones and Schultz with the score still under 70. Some exceptional keeping from wicket keeper Shannon Madden aided the two openers reducing the home side to 74-7. County’s fielding was generally excellent with one or two exceptions. However, a superb 8th wicket partnership between Byrne (36) and man-of-the-match Carroll (66) brought Leinster to within victory but County fought back to bring themselves to the verge of victory with the home side on 181-9. Carroll continued to play in a composed manner and guided his side to a nail biting victory by 1 wicket with a boundary through mid wicket with only 3 overs remaining. It was a great spectacle for the neutrals with both sides going toe to toe in a fine game of cricket.

LCU Division 2:
Leinster 203-9 beat Cork County 202 all out by 1 wicket at Observatory Lane.

Saturday June 11th

Following the disappointment of the 1 wicket loss to Leinster CC, County faced another tricky away trip the following weekend with a journey down to Carriganore in Waterford to face WIT. Last season the Mardyke side found both of their trips to Waterford more than a difficult obstacle so they were not underestimating the task in hand this year. However, with a crucial LCU Division 2 home tie against Old Belvedere the following day, County rested some first team regulars. In the absence of Bruce Koch, Ross Durity captained the side which saw senior debuts for both seamers Brian O’Leary and Farhan. The match also saw the return of Brad Morgan to the Cork County senior side after his ‘brief’ hiatus to Cork Harlequins last season. WIT won the toss and decided to bat. An innings typified with plenty of aerial shots saw the home side set a total of 213 with Haq Nawaz reaching 53 with debutant Brian O’Leary finishing with figures of 3-39.

On an artificial with uneven bounce, Cork County openers Shannon Madden and Ross Durity were determined to establish a solid start. After an uncomfortable innings, Shannon was caught behind for 15 and he was soon followed by overseas player George Barry who was adjudged LBW to Adeel. Robert Duggan joined Durity in the middle and both experienced batsmen were eager to consolidate the innings. However, Durity soon departed to an excellent caught and bowled by Adeel. Des O’Leary joined Duggan and both combined to form a solid partnership with both players playing some nice shots down the ground and square of the wicket. With County cruising towards victory, O’Leary mistimed a full delivery and was clean bowled by Nawaz. A well crafted innings by Duggan saw him soon reach his half century and he began to open up with victory in sight and finished the game on 77 not out. Victory was secured with Creedon dispatching a full delivery from Adeel to secure an impressive 5 wicket victory at a demanding venue.

MCU Division 1:
Cork County 215-5 beat WIT 213 all out by 5 wickets at Carriganore.

Cork County seal opening win of the 2011 campaign

Wednesday, April 27th, 2011

Cork County began the defence of their Munster Division 1 title with a tricky home fixture to 2010 surprise package, Limerick Raiders. Both sides had enjoyed some memorable encounters during the 2010 season which culminated in a thumping 10 wicket victory for County in the Munster Senior Cup final. The fixture also marked the first chance for new skipper Bruce Koch to lead the side out in a competitive fixture. The Mardyke side also welcomed all-rounder Sidhz Joshi back after two years away in India and wicketkeeper Shannon Madden after his return from a season in Australia. Ross Durity was missing due to exam commitments and overseas player George Barry would not be available until the May bank holiday weekend.

The early start to the 2011 season was reflected in the wicket at the Mardyke which proved to be low and slow in the April conditions so the toss would be crucial to the outcome of the game. Raiders captain, Azeem Khan, duly won the toss and put the home side into bat. Des O’Leary and Madden opened the batting for County as they endeavoured to get the innings off to a steady start on the slow wicket. O’Leary made some typical lusty blows down the ground as he attempted to prevent the Raiders opening attack from settling while Madden sought to work the new ball and take advantage of the gaps in the field. Madden’s innings was ended by an excellent catch by Shani Alam at silly mid off the bowling of Azeem. Robert Duggan joined O’Leary at the crease and both tried to consolidate the innings and get to grips with the slow pace of the wicket.

Seemingly in control, O’Leary momentarily lost concentration as he was adjudged stumped after he left his crease having mistakenly thought that the ball had beaten the wicketkeeper. The dismissal of O’Leary brought the captain and 2010 Munster Player of the Year, Bruce Koch, to the crease as he looked to establish a solid partnership with Duggan and give some momentum to the County innings. The Limerick side knew that Koch was the key wicket if they were to upset the home side. Koch as usual looked at ease in the middle until he inside edged a short delivery which stayed low onto his stumps. Koch’s dismissal was greeted with great joy by the Raiders players. Chris Banon replaced Koch at the crease and played a number of nice shots down the ground and to the leg side before veteran Shani Alam got one to beat his outside edge and knock his off stump. County were now in trouble with four wickets down and required a big partnership from experienced pair of Duggan and Andrew Wootton. Duggan began to play his shots as he had adapted to the pace of the wicket. His progress was halted, however, after he was struck flush on the foot by a yorker from seamer Usman Khan which x-rays later confirmed had resulted in a broken toe for the number three batsman. Distracted by the injury, Duggan was soon clean bowled by Khan and Raiders could sense an upset on the cards.

West Indian all-rounder Andrew Saul replaced Duggan and looked to accelerate the run rate with typical West Indian gusto. Saul’s brief cameo was ended when he was out to a good catch on the boundary at long on. Sidhz Joshi joined Wootton at the crease and began to work the ball around with his trademark craft and skill. As he adjusted to the conditions, Joshi soon expanded his shot play with some impressive sweeps and drives through the covers. Joshi was ably supported by Wootton until his demise when he was adjudged LBW by umpire Michael Hickey to a ball from off spinner Aftab. Big hitting Darren Fogarty joined Joshi in the middle and both steered County towards a respectable target, both began to pierce the Raiders ring field at regular intervals. Joshi was spectacularly run out on 45 by some sharp fielding by Alam off his own bowling. Matt Reed soon followed after a mix up between the wickets with partner Fogarty. Fogarty then was the final wicket to fall with the score on 162 after he was caught in the deep by Usman Khan.

With a target of 163 to win, Limerick Raiders required a solid start and to see off the ever threatening bowling of Bruce Koch and Andrew Wootton. Koch began his spell bowling a great line and length and with some excellent pace. The Raiders opening pair of Azeem Khan and Khuram Javid found the going tough with the ball whizzing past the outside edge of the bat on regular occasions. Wootton finally made the breakthrough by clean bowling Azeem by getting one to nip back in off the seam. Wicketkeeper Mohammed Faizan was in at three would he too found the going tough with Koch now in full flow and getting the most from the wicket. Faizan was adjudged LBW after he was trapped in his crease due to the extra pace of Koch (3-30). The other opener, Khuram Javid, was slowly beginning to adjust to the conditions and began to play some expansive shots down the ground and pounced on anything short. First change bowler, Matt Reed, was on the receiving end of some big hitting from the Limerick Raiders opener as Khuram dispatched one or two deliveries onto the Mardyke.

Khuram continued to lose partners as the experienced number four, Shani Alam, was also trapped LBW by a delivery from Wootton. Sohail replaced Alam in the middle and he was determined to get his free flowing partner on strike as much as possible by nudging and working the ball into the gaps. However, Khuram then fell victim to a good catch on the long-on boundary from substitute fielder Ashley Jones off the bowling of Reed. The fall of Khuram gave the home side real confidence that they could go on and complete a comprehensive victory. Masroor Ahmed soon followed and he was replaced by the big hitting Usman Khan. Usman and number eight batsman Aftab Ahmed and both establish and threatening partnership, both complimenting perfectly. Usman proved the power and boundaries while Aftab ably manoeuvred the ball around to keep the scoreboard ticking and providing Usman with the majority of strike.

For Cork County, off break bowler Andrew Saul was now dominating the Limerick side with some excellent line and length, giving the Raiders’ batsmen no width to free their arms. Saul finished his superb ten over spell with figures of 1-14 with no less than seven maidens. Left armer, Sidhz Joshi, and off-spinner Ciarán Healy also combined to frustrate the Shannon siders as County sought to break the partnership of Aftab and Usman. The reintroduction of skipper Bruce Koch finally saw the removal of Usman who was tricked by a well disguised slower ball from the quickie and provided Healy at mid-off with a comfortable catch. The big wicket of Usman was soon followed by Aftab who was trapped LBW by Joshi. With the Limerick Raiders slowly edging towards the target of 163 for victory, the home crowd began to get a little nervous. However, the league holders showed great character and nerve as they picked off the final two wickets of Sajid Javid and Qasim Zaidi. Zaidi was the final wicket to fall to a great catch at slip by Andrew Saul off the bowling of Joshi (2-22).

The tightly contested match was the perfect opener for the Mardyke side as embark on a huge season for the club. Local rivals, Cork Harlequins, are next up on Monday May 2nd in Munster League Division 1 before the first Leinster league fixture against Terenure at the Mardyke on Saturday the 7th May followed by the eagerly anticipated Irish Cup tie away to Eglington in Derry on Saturday May 14th. It all bodes well for another hugely exciting season at the Mardyke.

Successful night for Cork County at the MCU awards

Friday, December 3rd, 2010

Despite the severe winter weather there was an impressive turn-out for the Munster Cricket Union 2010 Awards ceremony hosted by MCU President, Gerry Horan, and MCU Chairman, Jack Filen at Cork County’s splendidly refurbished clubhouse at the Mardyke last Saturday night.

The weather did have some impact, however, as members of Waterford District CC were unable to travel to collect the trophy and winners’ medals which they were due to receive for winning the Division 3 title in their inaugural season in MCU competition.

Cork County CC’s Bruce Koch took the premier individual award when he was named MCU Player of the Year for 2010.

The award was due recognition for what was a golden summer for Koch whose performances with both bat and ball were the key factors in leading Cork County to the Division 1 and Senior Cup double.

Bruce’s batting average was a remarkable 118.25 as he compiled an aggregate of 473 runs from nine visits to the crease with a top score of 100 not out and his equally impressive bowling average saw him take 25 wickets at 12.08.

Earlier in the evening the impressive progress being made at underage level in the province was acknowledged with the presentation of individual awards for the MCU Players of the Year in the U17, U15, U13 and U11 age group categories.

MCU U17 Player of the Year was presented to Cork County CC’s Chris Banon who topped the Munster U17s XI batting averages in the team’s debut season in the LCU U17 League with 181 runs in 7 innings at an average of 36.2 with a top score of 85.

In announcing the award Munster CDO James Doran noted that apart from his contribution with the bat, Chris’s shrewd captaincy had also been a major factor in the Munster U17s highly successful campaign in Leinster which saw them reach the final of the competition at the first attempt.

Ruadhan Jones of Cork Harlequins CC was named MCU U15 Player of the Year following an outstanding interprovincial tournament for the Munster U13s averaging 71.66 with the bat with a top score of 139 and key contributions to the Munster U15 and U17 teams in 2010. For the U17s as an opening bat he had totalled 111 runs at an average of 18.5 and featured in three of the top five partnerships including the only century partnership of the campaign – a match-winning 120 for the first wicket with Rory O’Keeffe in a winner-takes-all final group match against YMCA.

The MCU U13 Player of the Year award went to John Kelly Jnr of Clonmel CC for his achievement in being the leading wicket taker for Munster at the U13 interprovincial tournament taking in total 5 wickets for 83 runs at an average of 16.2 which was the best economy rate of the Munster bowlers at 3.52. He was also third in the Munster batting averages with 29 runs in two innings for an average of 14.5.

The last of the individual awards, the MCU U11 Player of the Year, was presented to Nathan Bryan of Lismore CC who was Lismore’s leading performer with the ball in 2010 for both the club’s U11 and U13 XIs.

The evening concluded with the presentation of the Division 1 and Division 2 trophies and winners’ medals to the Cork County 1st and 2nd XIs capping a remarkable year for the Leesiders who only a year before had seen their ground and clubhouse devastated by floodwater.

County brush Quins aside to claim 2010 Division 1 League Title

Tuesday, August 24th, 2010

Cork County took on local rivals Cork Harlequins at the Mardyke last Sunday with the home side knowing that victory would hand them the Munster League Division 1 title. Victory would put County into an unassailable lead in the league standings with second placed Midleton running out of games to have any hope of clawing them back. Cork County were without all-rounder Andrew Saul and the injured Darren Fogarty but welcomed back seamer James Duggan into what was a strong side.

After winning the toss Harlequins captain, Cormac Wilcox, decided to have a bat on what was some of the best batting conditions at the Mardyke all season. With a hint of disappointment the Cork County side prepared to have a bowl and deny the Farmers Cross side the opportunity of building any sort of competitive total. Openers, James Duggan (0-10) and Indian pace man Sujith Girija (4-14), bowled with great control and verve with great carry through to the keeper, Des O’Leary. The Quins’ innings didn’t begin well with the run out of Ruadhan Jones after some sharp fielding at mid wicket by Robert Duggan. His dismissal was soon followed by young Rory O’Keefe who edged a sharp delivery from Girija straight to Bruce Koch at second slip. These two early wickets marked the start of a collapse in the Harlequins innings with not one player in the line-up reaching double figures for the second time in as many matches against the Mardyke side. Medium pacers, Matt Reed (1-17) and Andrew Wootton (3-7), as always took the pace off the ball with movement both into and away from the batsman. Denying them any room to free their arms and get any momentum into their innings. Once the final Harlequins wicket of Liam Hale fell, they had massed the meagre total of 54 all out for the home side to chase.

With such a small total to chase, Cork County opened the batting with the clean hitting Michael John Wycherley (20*) and skipper Robert Duggan (32*), both of whom were determined to chase down the total quickly without the loss of any wickets. Both batsmen played some great shots down the ground and square of the wicket as they went at almost 10 runs per over. They were aided, however, by some mediocre bowling from the Farmers Cross side. With 4 runs needed for victory, Cork County captain Robert Duggan pulled a short ball from Brendan Winslow for a boundary to clinch the 2010 Munster League Division 1 title. The boundary was greeted with celebration from the County players and supporters as they claimed the Division 1 title for the second time in three years. The manner of the victory by ten wickets typified the determination and fighting quality that Cork County have shown throughout the league campaign from the pre-season right up this title clinching victory.

All attention now turns to Leinster League Division 2 action this weekend as County travel to Dublin to take on Terenure and Old Belvedere in two crucial fixtures with their fate in the league still to be decided with four games remaining. The Munster Senior Cup Final follows on Sunday the 5th September against a strong Limerick Raiders side at the Mardyke as County hope to secure the League and Cup double to emulate the great Mardyke sides of the 90’s and early 2000’s.

Sunday August 22nd: Cork County 55-0 beat Cork Harlequins 54 all out by 10 wickets at the Mardyke scorecard

Upcoming Fixtures:
Saturday 28th: Terenure v Cork County at Terenure
Sunday 29th: Old Belvedere v Cork County at Cabra

Munster Senior Cup Final:
Sunday 5th September: Cork County v Limerick Raiders at the Mardyke

County battle to victory in Midleton to edge closer to Division 1 title

Wednesday, August 18th, 2010

Cork County moved a step closer to regaining the Munster League Division 1 title on Sunday with a hard fought victory over Midleton at Midleton College. Two weeks after both sides served up a similarly nerve-racking finish in their Munster Senior Cup semi-final at the same venue, they clashed again in a top of the table league match. County knew victory would push them to within touching distance of regaining the Munster Division 1 title after narrowly missing out last season while Midleton knew victory would propel them back onto mix for the title.

Cork County were without opening seamer James Duggan and all-rounder Andrew Saul but still fielded a strong team to take on the East Cork side with the inclusion of the returning Andrew Wootton after his holidays. Winning the toss once again, County opted to have a bowl first hoping to dismiss Midleton for a manageable total. Openers Bruce Koch (2-25) and Andrew Wootton (3-46) bowled with great control and posing difficulty for the Midleton top order dismissing Hitchmough, Mohammadi and Gomesz in quick succession. Ciarán Healy (2-57) and Matt Reed (2-43) took over from the openers in almost 24 degree heat and dismissed the bulk of the Midleton middle order of McDonnell, Dethridge and Whittaker for very little, however, experienced all-rounder Clinton Laverty showed great determination and patience as he hung in there with support from tail-ender David Sommerfield. To the frustration of the Cork County attack, their partnership with a high degree of luck pushed Midelton towards a very respectable total. Finally, Sommerfield was dismissed by a medium pace wobbler from Wootton and he was soon followed by Laverty who finished on 82. Midleton were bowled out for a very respectable 191 in testing conditions.

Cork County knew from previous experience that they would have to dig deep to chase down such a total particularly with the condition of the wicket deteriorating rapidly. Openers Oliver Creedon and Ross Durity hoped to emulate their previous 100 run first wicket stand at the same venue two weeks ago. However, Durity was dismissed trying to pull a short ball from Managuruge but top edging back into the bowlers hands. Skipper Duggan soon followed after he was caught at backward point trying to square cut a short wide ball from Glen Gomesz. In form South African, Bruce Koch, joined Creedon at the crease and both looked to consolidate the County innings. Koch (37) was soon into his stride despatching the Midleton attack to all parts of the field. With their partnership gradually gaining pace, Creedon was adjudged LBW in a very ‘questionable’ decision by the umpire after being struck on his thigh by a ball from Managuruge. Michael Wycherley (20) took up where Creedon left off by supporting Koch at the crease, however, their partnership was ended prematurely after another dubious decision against Koch when he was adjudged LBW despite having made a long stride down the pitch to a bowler who consistently shaped the ball down leg. Chris Banon (33) joined Wycherley in the middle and both batted with great authority and control with Banon in particular showing great composure in testing conditions as he waited for the bad balls. It was a timely innings from the young left hander and should give him great confidence going into the final weeks of the season. Wycherley departed after being bowled by a sharp Yorker from Laverty and he was followed by Wootton after he was adjudged LBW despite having got a thick inside edge. County players and supporters were feeling that decisions were really going against them however their fighting spirit came to the fore once again with their very own ‘Michael Bevan’ in the guise of Matt Reed (16 not out) guiding County home in another match winning performance, ably supported by the promising young all-rounder Noelie Cronin.

The victory was greeted with great jubilation by players and supporters alike as the importance was not lost, knowing that victory next Sunday against Harlequins would all but seal the Division 1 title for the Mardyke side. The side’s depth and character has been tested throughout the season and each time they have responded with great resilience and determination.

Sunday 15th August at Midleton College:
Midleton 191 all out (Laverty 82, Wootton 3-46, Koch 2-25, Reed 2-43)
Cork County 192-7 (Koch 37, Banon 33, Wycherley 20, Mahaguruge 3-41, Gomesz 2-38)

County close in on Division 1 title with victory over Limerick Raiders

Monday, August 9th, 2010

Cork County continued their charge towards regaining the Munster League Division 1 title after a hard fought victory against Limerick Raiders at the Mardyke on Sunday. County knew that victory against the Shannon-siders would put them in a commanding position in the Division 1 title race with a crunch tie against second placed Midleton on the horizon. The match also acted as a precursor to the upcoming 2010 Munster Senior Cup final where the two sides will go head to head in Munster’s showpiece event.

Limerick captain Azeem Khan won the toss and opted to bat first in perfect conditions at the Mardyke. Limerick’s innings struggled to get any momentum until Usman Khan (36) joined number three batsman Asif (60) at the crease. Their partnership pushed the Raiders towards the respectable total of 159 after they were finally bowled out in the 42nd over. Some excellent bowling from the ever dependable Bruce Koch (3-30) and medium pacer Matt Reed (3-30) proved too much for the Limerick side. Seamer James Duggan (2-35) and off-spinner Andrew Saul (2-43) also chipped in with some wickets.

In reply openers Ross Durity and Oliver Creedon aimed to provide a solid start to the Cork County run chase and in form Durity was soon into his stride with some splendid shots down the ground and square of the wicket. Creedon was unlucky to be caught behind down the leg side and he was followed by West Indian Andrew Saul who misjudged a leave and was clean bowled. Cork County’s star player of 2010, Bruce Koch, joined Durity out in the middle and they two were eager to build a big partnership to bring the home side close to the required total. Durity (23) was caught behind after he got the finest of edges to a ball from Limerick stalwart Shani Alam. County youngster Chris Banon soon followed Durity after he was adjudged LBW by umpire Jack Russell in the same over. The Cork County skipper, Robert Duggan, joined Koch at the crease and both consolidated and began building a comfortable partnership nullifying the Limerick attack pushing County towards the required 160 runs. However, after a mix up between the two, Duggan was run out and suddenly the County lower middle order was under pressure once again. Duggan’s run out was soon followed by the departure of Koch who mistimed a leg side glace and was caught by Farrukh Bhagat. Darren Fogarty soon followed Koch when he was run out after a silly mix up with his partner Michael Wycherley. County’s cup semi-final hero Matt Reed (24*) and Wycherley re-established some control and both brought he Mardyke side to within touching distance of victory until Wycherley was superbly caught and bowled by Farrukh Bhagat. Suddenly a few nerves returned to the County supporters as tail ender James Duggan joined Reed in the middle with only seven runs required. Reed’s cool and calm demeanor ensured that he was unaffected by any nerves and he coolly scored the winning runs which clinched a vital victory for Cork County as they now turn their attention to second placed Midleton next week knowing that victory there would all but clinch their first Division 1 title in over two years.

County’s Division 1 clash with Harlequins postponed in bizarre circumstances

Wednesday, June 30th, 2010

Cork County were due to take on Cork Harlequins at Farmers Cross in a Division 1 top of the table clash this upcoming Sunday the 4th of July. However in bizarre circumstances Cork Harlequins have appealed to the MCU to have the match postponed under the guise that their groundsman apparently needs time to prepare wickets for the upcoming U-13 Interprovincials. Cork County immediately rejected such a proposal as Division 1 League cricket should always have precedence especially for such an important potential league deciding match. However, unsurprisingly the MCU committee succumbed to pressure from the Farmers Cross outfit and have agreed to postpone the fixture.

Just to note, the Mardyke will also be playing host to three U-13 interprovincial matches that week and will in addition be hosting a charity 6-a-side tournament this Saturday and a Division 3 League fixture on Sunday the 4th. Supporters should also note that Phoenix CC have a Leinster League Division 2 fixture this coming Sunday which ironically would have coincided with the County v Harlequins fixture.
