Hassett named 2022 Player of the Year

Cormac Hassett was named the Noel Malloy Player of the Year at the 2022 Annual Awards Dinner at the Mardyke last Friday, 25th November.

The keeper/batsman had an impressive season with the bat and gloves and had already been awarded the Satchwell Cup for the best wicketkeeper in the Leinster Championship and the 1st XI Batsman of the Year. Cormac amassed 364 runs at an average of 33 in the Championship and averaged an impressive 41 in the Munster Premier T20 competition. He also was capped at Munster Reds level once again.

The evening also saw awards presented at 2nd, 3rd and 4th XI levels and was preceded by the Youth section so it proved to be a very well attended and enjoyable night.

Nabeel Anjum took home the O’Donnell Bowler of the Year award following an excellent season with the ball in all competitions. Nabeel took 17 wickets at an average of 27.8 in the Leinster Championship and 11 wickets at 17.9 in the Munster Premier Division.

There were also two special presentations made on the night to recognise achievements both on and off the field. Firstly, Ross Durity was recognised for having played over a hundred fixtures (119) for the club in Cricket Leinster competitions, joining Robert Duggan in the century club with still a few seasons left in the tank!

Club stalwart David Griffin was also acknowledged for his year as Cricket Ireland President during which time he has overseen Ireland’s recent successes at the T20 World Cup and the full return of cricketing activity following the Covid pandemic. David is the latest President of Cricket Ireland to originate from Cork County following on from Pat Dineen back in 1987.
