Jeremy Benton unveiled as overseas player for 2018 season

Tuesday, April 10th, 2018

Cork County Cricket Club are delighted to welcome young New Zealander Jeremy Benton as our overseas player for the 2018 season with a busy schedule in Leinster Division 2, Munster Premier Division as well as numerous Cup competitions.

Jeremy (22) is a promising left-arm spinning all-rounder currently part of the Canterbury Cricket white ball squads. He made his T20 (Super Smash) debut in 2016, then earned his List A (Ford Trophy) debut in December 2017. To date, the talented all-rounder has played 11 domestic white ball matches – 3 Ford Trophy and 8 Super Smash. Highlights include his 47-ball 40* on his 50-over debut against Otago (coming it at number 8 with Canterbury reeling at 143-6) and his match-winning figures of 3-27 (4) helping the Kings to victory over the Central Stags. A former Blackcaps U19 representative (2012-14), he also excelled for Christchurch Boys’ High School (2012-14), represented Canterbury U19s (2013/14), Canterbury A (2014-17) and Canterbury Country (2014-17).

Canterbury coach Gary Stead lauded Benton by saying “He’s got some really smart leadership capabilities. He’s an excellent fielder. I think he’ll turn into a real quality spinner… Down the track, he’ll be an integral part of our Canterbury line-up.”

We are sure everyone will give Jeremy a warm CCCC welcome once he arrives next week! He’ll be involved with coaching the youth section and assisting with the adult squads throughout the season. #WeAreCounty
