County Cubs beat Midleton by 5 wickets in Munster U14 League

Monday, August 8th, 2016

On a very damp day in Midleton, Cork County U14’s recorded their first league success of the league in their last league fixture of 2016.

Winning captain M. Salam won the toss and choose to bowl first on a misty afternoon and that decision looked to be a very good choice with H. Safi running out the Midleton’s opener with a direct hit from midwicket off the first ball.

Another wicket followed in the third over, however from there Midleton built runs with a superb 29 (retired n.o.) from L. O’Reilly, with supporting scores from I. Sharif (22) and J. Bryan (20). This helped Midleton to a score of 117 a.o. after 19.1 overs.

Best of the County bowlers were H. Safi (3.1-0-3-17) E. O’Sullivan (4-0-2-18), D. Kennedy (3-0-1-14), M. Salam (2-0-1-18) and R. O’Sullivan (3-0-1-26). It should also be noted that A Hussain had a great run out with a direct hit from long stop.

In reply County chased down the target of 118 in 17.1 overs for the loss of 5 wickets. Best of the batsmen were Z. Pirzada 26 (retired n.o.), E. O’Sullivan (21 n.o.), A McAllen (17 n.o.) and H. Safi (13). For Midleton I. Sharif (3-0-1-19), H. Edgerton (3-0-1-26) and L. O’Reilly (4-0-1-26) were the best of the bowlers.

Well done to all.

U14’s fall 2 runs short against Limerick

Sunday, May 29th, 2016

U14 Challenge Match

28th May 2016

Limerick 48 all out (R. O’Sullivan 2-3, J. van Heerden 5-2) beat Cork County 46 all out by 2 runs at the Mardyke.

In a well contested game, Limerick battled to 48 all out (James 8, Evan 6*) due in the main to good tight bowling from Cork County’s Rian O’Sullivan (2-0-2-3) and Josh van Heerden (2.3-0-5-2).

With 48 to defend Limerick got 2 wickets in the fifth over, followed up with 2 in the eighth. With the score at 19 for 4 the game was up for grabs. A good partnership between H Safi and F Jobi got the score to 32 before Limerick bowled Safi in the 11th over. Limerick conceded another 7 runs before getting another wicket (39 for 6) and the next wicket fell at 45 for 7.

Limerick started the 15th over with a lbw (46-8) before bowling our final batsmen out and winning the match.

The scorecard tells a story of where our batsmen need to work, but very well done to all who played on the day.

Tuesday, April 26th, 2016

There was great excitement as the 2016 cricket season finally got underway at Cork County on Saturday, 23rd April, after a long a wet winter.

Over 20 children from our U11 and U13 squads turned out on a beautiful April morning as a training session and 2 separate matches were held over the course of the morning ahead of the pre-season fixture between the Cork County 1st XI and Bangor CC at midday.

It was clear that all those who attended were were extremely well prepared after our indoor sessions over the winter and totally focused on an exciting season ahead.

Many of the children also stayed around for the day to watch the senior game against Bangor during the afternoon.

Outdoor Summer Training for U11’s and U13’s commences on Friday evening at the Mardyke starting at 6 p.m. All welcome so register below.
